Inter Milan's Armenian midfielder, Ivan Perisic, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in his knee during the club's recent match against Sassuolo.
The 29-year-old was replaced by Croatian international Marko Grujic in the second half and is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Perisic's injury comes at a crucial time for Inter, who are currently sitting in fourth place in Serie A and have already secured their spot in next year's Europa League.
He scored four goals in 14 appearances this season before picking up the injury, which will be a major blow for manager Luciano Spalletti and his team.
However, the Italian coach has vowed to find a replacement for Perisic, with several players vying for a chance to play alongside new signing Romelu Lukaku.
One name that has been linked with a move to Inter is French winger Thomas Lemar,Serie A Stadium who has impressed during his loan spell at Monaco this season.
Lemar, 25, would bring added pace and creativity to the squad, but it remains to be seen whether he can convince Spalletti to part with one of his star performers.
In the meantime, Spalletti will need to make do without Perisic for the remainder of the campaign, and it will be interesting to see how the team responds without its most creative and influential player.
